3. Complete complex selections accurately

Use the “Magic Wand” tool to select a specific area in an image with a click of the mouse, easily selecting complex image elements, and then use the “Adjust Edge” command to eliminate the background color around the edge of the selection, automatically change the edge of the selection and improve Masking makes the selected image more precise, even down to the fine hair parts.

(1) Execute the “File” → “Open” command to open the CD that comes with this book\Chapter-01\“Character.jpg”File, as shown in the picture1-122shown.

(2) Select the “Magic Wand” tool in the toolbox, set its option bar, click on the gray background, and select the background image, as shown in Figure 1-123.

(3) Press the keys on the keyboard to invert the selection. And use the “Rectangular Marquee” tool to select the selected part of the character, as shown in Figures 1-124 and 1-125.

(4) In the option bar of the “Magic Wand” tool, click the “Adjust Edge” button to open the “Adjust Edge” dialog box, as shown in Figure 1-126.

(5) In the dialog box, click the triangle button on the right side of “View” to pop up its drop-down list. You can see that the “White Background” option is selected by default, as shown in Figure 1-127.

(6) Press the key on the keyboard to cycle through the views to observe the selected image more clearly, as shown in Figures 1-128 and 1-129. When finished, select the default view.

(7) Set the “Radius” value in the “Edge Detection” column in the dialog box to 70. The larger the value, the larger the edge expansion area and the better the effect. As shown in Figure 1-130.

(8) Select the “Smart Radius” checkbox in the “Edge Detection” column, The system will intelligently adjust the expansion area according to the image, as shown in Figure 1-131 Show.
