Book cover final effect
The final effect of the CD cover
Find any PS picture material as the cover of books and CDs
1. Create a new 530×800 canvas, then open the Gradient Tool (G) and set the gradient parameters: There are 4 color scales below:
①#909497 position 0%, ②#969a9d position 35%, ③#FFFFFF position 35%, ④#8a8a8c position 100%
Figure 1
Then hold down Shift and drag a linear gradient from the bottom up.
2. Establish a reference line: I personally recommend changing the default shortcut keys first, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+K and then selecting the view in the list.
Drag it down below
I modified Ctrl+/ to create a new guide line, and Ctrl+. to clear the guide line. If you don’t want to modify it, you can also choose it on the menu
Create 5 new reference lines (vertical): 83, 112, 470 (horizontal): 110, 690 (the reference lines here are the thickness and cover width and height that determine the perspective of the book)
figure 2
Drag in a picture with a larger resolution and adjust the size if you like, as shown in the picture
Figure 3
3. Use the Rectangle Tool (U) to select the text and book edges, enlarge the canvas and check if the boundaries are not aligned, you can use Ctrl+T to modify the aligned boundaries, or after the keyboard arrow movement path is aligned correctly, press Ctrl+Enter to load the selection. , press Ctrl+J to create a new layer from the selection (or you can also use Ctrl+Shift+i to invert the selection and then delete it. However, people who often draw should develop a habit of not destroying the original nature of the material so that they can be updated in the future. Modified picture)
Then, hide the material, use the marquee tool on the newly created layer, select the book edge, and then use Ctrl+J to create the book edge layer. After creation, delete the book edge area of the book cover layer, otherwise it will affect the perspective later
Figure 4
4. What you have to do now is to type. There is no difficulty here. The key is to choose the appropriate font. The font effect is the outer glow in the layer style. I don’t have much experience in typesetting because I am not in the printing industry. If you are interested, you can Go to bookstores, Dangdang.com, Tmall, etc. to read more about the effects of book and magazine covers, and copy the layout. The more you do it, the more experience you will gain.
In order to facilitate management, it is recommended to combine folders. Select the layer to be combined Ctrl+G. The written layout effect I made is as follows
Figure 5
5. Then use the same method to format and combine the edges of the book
Figure 6
6. Copy each of the book cover and book margins layers we made initially and place them in the written text content file, book margins folder, and the bottom layer inside. Then hide all layers and keep the book margins folder visible. Create a new Name a blank layer and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E when switching back to English. Stamping In the past two days, someone has asked me what is the use of stamping? Let me put it simply, the stamping function is equivalent to changing the current The effects displayed on the canvas are combined into one layer. Whatever is displayed on the canvas is the stamped layer. Is that okay without stamping it? Of course, just put the pictureJust merge them together.
But this will combine the layers, which is not conducive to our modification. Therefore, stamping can exactly make up for this function and purpose. Why can’t I use stamps? This is because the input method is Chinese or full-width, and half-width English is required. OK, continue! The seal is done. The effect of the two layers of book edge and writing is as follows:
Figure 7-Figure 8
7. To display the background, press Ctrl+T on the written stamp layer, right-click the transform area and select Perspective
Figure 9
Drag the vertex in the upper right corner to move it down a little, about 3 degrees, and press Enter.
Figure 10
Select the book edge layer and drag it in the upper left corner in the same way to give it a perspective effect. After doing it, note that there will be a gap between the book edge and the writing. You need to modify it with Ctrl+T. After adjusting it, press Ctrl+H to hide the reference. Just check it online and see if you are satisfied with the effect. The effect is as follows:
Figure 11
8. Although we have done a good job overall, we are not done yet. Because there is no light and dark contrast between the edge of the book and the writing, the effect cannot be seen. So what we’re going to do is add a light effect to it. Press G to open the gradient tool, and set the color stop color as follows①#1f1e1e position 0%②#64676f position 70%③#1f1e1e position 100%
Figure 12
Then create a new blank layer, press Ctrl and click on the thumbnail of the book edge stamp layer to load its selection, pull a linear gradient from left to right and then mix the layer into [Linear Light] with an opacity of 60% (according to (Depends on material situation)
Figure 13
What we need to do next is the highlight effect of the cover. It depends on the material. If some materials have a better light and dark relationship in the picture, there is no need to do it. If not, you need to create a new layer to combine the foreground color and the background color. Set the background color to white, and then select the second gradient in the gradient panel, which is the one from white to transparent
Figure 14
Then load the written selection, pull a linear gradient from left to right, and blend the layer into [Soft Light] with an opacity of 60% (depending on the material)
Figure 15
8. The last step is to make the reflection. Here is a small episode, which is me. Everyone knows that to make a reflection, you need to split the structure. Since the deformation of the written work we did before was done using perspective, so I am making the reflection. At that time, I also followed this idea and used perspective to make reflections on the previous book edges and written layers. As a result, I found that the contents in the reflection were not aligned and were not on a horizontal plane. Later, the same problem occurred when using bevel cutting. After wondering for a long time, I asked him and he said to use twist~
Repeat step six to create a stamp for both the book edge and the writing. Book edge reflection and writing reflection (this is why I said not to destroy the layer material, sometimes the reuse rate will be higher)
Figure 16
Then select both layers, right-click Ctrl+T–Flip vertically. Since we don’t need such long reflections, we can crop them out
Figure 17
Then move to the bottom, press Ctrl+H to display the guide line, and add one more guide line in the middle
Figure 18
It is easier to operate by enlarging the brush. Select the reflection on the edge of the book, press Ctrl+T, right-click – Distort, align the position and press Enter. In the same way, adjust the reflection of the book by distorting it, based on the reference line in the middle.
Figure 19
9. After processing the reflection position, merge the two layers. Then press Q to enter the quick mask, then press M to select the location where we want to make the gradient using the frame selection tool. Press G to select the gradient tool from black to white.
Figure 20
Then draw a gradient in the selection. At this time, the color of the gradient is from red to translucent. Because this is in the quick mask state, not the normal layer state.
Figure 21
Then press Q to exit the quick mask. At this time, you can find that the red part has become an inverted selection area
Figure 22
Then press Delete to delete, and you will have a translucent reflection effect
Figure 23
Sometimes the gradients and selections we make may not be in place at once. It is possible that the reflection will be lighter or darker after deletion. This is a good solution. If it is lighter, just press Ctrl+J to deepen it. If it is darker, then A better solution is to directly adjust the layer opacity. The result is as follows:
Figure 24
10. This step is dispensable for some purposes, but I still did it in order to match the actual lighting effect, which is shadow. Because the light surface of the writing blocks the light, shadows will inevitably be produced on the ground. Create a new layer, use the Lasso tool to set a rough range, then fill it with black and Gaussian blur of 2 pixels, and then adjust the opacity to 25%
Figure 25
After checking the overall situation, I cut off the excess canvas at the top, and it was done. I suggest that novices must develop the habit of checking details. I found that many people submit their homework in a hurry, and many details that could have been dealt with are eliminated. Not processed. Final rendering:
【Create CD cover】
1. Create a new canvas of 550×550. I will change the background color randomly and then create two guide lines of 275 pixels, as shown in the picture:
Figure 1
Select the Ellipse Tool (U) (you can replace it with the Elliptical Selection Tool. I personally like to use an elliptical path for easy adjustment). Hold down Alt+Shift and drag a circular path outward from the center point, then drag in the material and adjust the size and position.
Figure 2
2. Load the path selection, invert the selection, delete the redundant materials and then draw another path
As shown in Figure 3
3. Then load the selection, Ctrl+J to create a layer of the inner circle. Do not cancel the selection. Click the menu and select–Modify–Shrink 3 pixels and then invert the selection. Delete the excess layer, and then re-select the inner circle layer. Draw a circle and delete it.
Figure 4
4. Create a new layer, load the layer selection menu of the cover disc, select–Modify–Shrink 1 pixel, and stroke white 2.The element is named outer stroke. Then drag the folder where we did the writing and rearrange it in it. Change the opacity of the inner circle to 80% to hide the background, stamp it, then drag it below the cover layer, select the move tool, press → Move 3 times on the keyboard, and the layer opacity is 50%
Figure 5
5. The last step is to increase the cover effect and give it a printing feel. Hide the background and CD stamp, re-stamp it on the top layer and then filter—other—customize the default and press Enter. The layer opacity is 55% (depending on the material) to display all layers, and then It’s finished.
Figure 6
The last step, okay, is the shadow. Just fill the two ovals with black, Gaussian blur, and adjust the opacity
Figure 7
Effect:
Finally, it is recommended that you save the file as a psd format archive. When making similar CD covers or book covers in the future, you only need to change the background image, which can greatly improve design efficiency.
