Imitation Ted Withers style poster This is a pleasant computer hand-painted creation process. The poster girl with the combination of angelic face and devilish figure is unforgettable. This may be the effect that posters need, which is to catch people’s attention. This creation draws on the work style of poster painter Ted Withers, combining the completed drawings and sketches to form a unique contrasting effect, which is very vivid.
The final picture:
1. Run Photoshop software and create a new blank file.
2. Create a new layer, name it “Sketch Settings”, and set it to Multiply. Use a brush tool of about 10 pixels and set the appropriate texture and intuos3 pressure-sensitive pen properties on the brush panel to make the strokes look more like a pencil on paper. Draw a rough composition and idea on a new layer as a basic prototype for your creation.
3. Temporarily close “Sketch” Set the visibility of the “Set” layer, then create a new Multiply layer and name it “Sketch”. Draw a complete outline sketch based on the previous idea. Don’t get too stuck on local details first, try to improve the overall relationship and human body dynamics. Using Intuos 3’s delicate pressure sensitivity and tilt recognition functions and Photoshop’s custom brushes, the drafting stage on the computer is as smooth as on paper.
4. Copy the “Sketch” layer for later use, and turn off the visibility of the original “Sketch” layer. Create a new layer “Color”, use a brush of about 20 pixels to apply color, and use intuos3 to control the shade of the color. Start with the hair part to determine the heaviest part of the picture.
5. Next, draw the red swimsuit and headgear.
6. Draw the skin color part , while paying attention to the combination of color and form.
7. Link and merge the “Sketch” and “Color” layers to continue to improve the overall relationship.
8. Use a customized triangle brush (see the previous WACOM intuos tutorial for details on brush customization) to draw more hierarchical relationships and make the shape more rounded.
9. In addition to the head and upper body, the legs and feet should also be drawn.
10. Select a brush head similar to a brush and paint some vibrant strokes on the background. Intuos 3’s delicate pressure sense and excellent brushing feel make the computer brush stroke effect closer to the traditional wet acrylic brush stroke effect.
11. To depict the details of the face, use a brush in airbrush mode to soften and enrich some turning surfaces to obtain a more delicate effect.
12. Zoom out to the global view and check and adjust the screen as a whole.
13. Finally, restore the visibility of those sketch layers, rearrange the composition position, and use layer masks. Let the initial line drawing become the most vivid background composite effect, forming an interesting contrast.
