Today we will learn to create a beautiful 3D ice cube text effect. Through this example, we will learn the use of filters, layer styles and downward copying. The tutorial is not my original work. Let’s take a look at the final effect:
First create a new 800×800 file, set the background color to black, and press Alt+Delete to fill
1. Select Arial font, bold, size 200pt, tax and profit, set foreground color #999999, enter COLD
2. Double-click the text layer, bring up the layer style, set the bevel and relief, as shown in the picture, select the vertices of the contour line (you have to load all the contour lines to find it)
3. Press Shift+Ctrl+N to create a new layer, press Shift to select two layers, then right-click and select “Merge Layers”
4. Execute Filter – Sketch – Stamp, the settings are as shown below:
5. Do not exit, click New at the bottom of the panel, select Chrome Yellow, set as shown in the figure, OK:
The effect is as shown below:
6. Enter the layer style panel, set the bevel and embossing, the size is 60, the shadow color is: #999999, and the contour line selects ring-double ring
The effect is as shown below:
7. Press Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow to copy 15 layers, as shown in the picture
8. Select layer 1, press Shit to select copy 14 of layer 1, press Ctrl+E to merge, and name this layer: Shadow
9. Select the shadow layer and execute Filter – Distort – Glass. The settings are as shown below:
The effect is as shown below:
10. Select the shadow layer and copy 15 of layer 1 and merge
11. Press Ctrl+U to bring up the Hue/Saturation panel, check Coloring, and set as shown in the figure
The effect is as shown below:
12. Select the background layer, select gradient fill, and set the color to: #cccccc #999999
13. Fill the background layer from left to right
The effect is as shown below:
14. Select the background layer and execute Filter-Distort-Glass. The settings are as shown below:
Add a shadow effect to the layer, freely transform and rotate it to the effect as shown in the picture, and our ice cube character part is completed:

First, let’s download a picture of Arctic glaciers
1. Open the glacier picture, drag in the ice text you just made, adjust it with the free transform tool, place it at the position shown in the picture, and name the text layer “text”
2. Select the background layer, select the Clone Stamp tool, press the Alt key to take a sample, then select the new layer and apply it at the location shown
3. The effect is as shown below:
4. In order to make the image appear more realistic, add a hue and saturation adjustment layer, with the values as shown
5. The final effect is as shown in the picture
