Today we will learn how to create a glowing effect in photoshop. In this tutorial, I will teach you how to process your photos into a very beautiful glowing effect. Let’s take a look at the final result.
If you’re ready, let’s get started.
Step 1
Download this Free Stock Image. Use the Magnetic Lasso Tool (L) to remove the background. Create a new document, my settings are 530 x 438 pixels. Use the color #000000 as the background color. Use the Move Tool (V) to move the material image into this new document. Name this layer “Stock Image”.
Step 2
Create a new layer above the previous layer. Select the Gradient Tool (G). Set the colors from #9d5c5b to #b53564. Apply the gradient to the new layer, set the layer’s Render Properties to Color, and change the Opacity to 75%.
Step 3
Create a new layer between the two layers just now. Set the foreground color to #470310. Now select the Gradient Tool and apply a “Foreground Color to Transparent” circular gradient. Drag the gradient as shown below and name this layer “Highlight1″
Step 4
Create a new layer above the Highlight1 layer and apply Filter > Render > Clouds. Set the layer mode to “Soft Light”. Name this layer “Cloud”. Hold down the shortcut key CTRL+J to duplicate this layer.
Step 5
Create a new layer under the Stock Image layer and name it “Circles”. Set the foreground color to #ffffff. Select the Ellipse Tool (U) and drag some circles. Make sure to hold down the Shif key to ensure that everything you drag is a perfect circle. Now adjust the fill to 30%. Jump to render mode (double-click the layer to pop out of the panel), set Outer Glow, and apply color #e1851a. Transparency 100%. Steps 6%, size 2 pixels.
Step 6
Duplicate the layer you just created. What we’re going to do now is make more circular glows. Adjust the position of this duplicate layer to get more of a circular glow. Repeat this step, adjusting the transparency of the layer, or shrinking the layer until you get the effect below.
Step 7
Create a new layer below the Stock Image layer and above the circular glow layer. Select the Custom Shape Tool (U), then select the shape “Tile 2” and adjust the transparency to 35%. Double-click to pop up the rendering panel, set the outer glow, and apply the color to #e1851a. Transparency 100%. The steps are 6% and the size is 2 pixels. Click Edit > Transform > Warp and transform as shown below.
After transforming, click Edit > Transform > Rotate to adjust to the appropriate position. Name this layer Tile. Duplicate this layer and change the duplicate layer’s transparency to 100% and fill to 30%.
Step 8
Duplicate the layer Stock Image, then select the duplicated layer and click Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. Set brightness to +100. Double-click the duplicated layer, set the Outer Glow, Color to #ffffbe, Opacity to 75%, Expand to 0% and Size to 18%. Now we will have the following effect.
Step 9
Create a new layer between the Stock Image and the duplicate layer. Set the foreground color to #ffffff. Select the Brush Tool (B) and set the brush to “Splatter 59 Pixels”. Now draw the following effect on the right side of the image as shown below.
Step 10
Let’s add some small glows. Create a new layer above the Stock Image layer. Select the Brush Tool (B) and adjust the brush hardness to 5 Pixels.
Step 11
Create a new layer, where we will use four colors. The first thing to use is #ffffbe, apply this on a new layerColor, then #587f23. The third one is #d99905 and then the fourth one is #ffcd03. Draw the effect as shown below.
Step 12
Click Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Set the blur value to 25 pixels.
Step 13
Almost done. Set the rendering mode of this layer to Color Dodge and the transparency to 45%. Click Edit > Transform > Rotate to adjust the position.
