Ordinary photos lack highlights and features. We can use Photoshop to add some visual impact.
Let’s first compare the photo effects before and after processing. The processed photos form a strong visual impact through the adjustment of Contrast and Color and are very beautiful.

This photo of riding the wind and waves was searched from iStockPhoto. This photo was already pretty good before I edited it, but it still lacks some visual impact.
The first thing we need to do is increase contrast.
Method to increase contrast: Execute Image menu>Adjustment>Brightness/Contrast. Contrast: 20, brightness unchanged.
Now duplicate this layer and press Shift-Ctrl-U to decolorize the copy of the photo.
Set the blending mode of the black and white layer to “Overlay” and 60% opacity.
Brush to create vignetting effect
Now use a large, soft brush.
Create a new layer and paint some black around the edges of the photo.
Then set this layer to “Overlay” and about 50% opacity.
The purpose of this is to create a subtle contrast between the center and the edges of the photo, which is very common.
Still use this method to adjust some details. In this surfing photo, there are some noise spots in the lower left corner, which seem to be bubbles or waves or something else. It doesn’t matter, we can remove these noise spots. So use a big black brush and paint lightly in the lower left corner. In this way, some parts of the photo will have a natural transition and look very clean, while some parts will be more eye-catching, and this will also increase the visual impact of the photo.
Reduce saturation
The colors in the photo now look too bright, so we create a new layer on top, fill it with black, and set the blending mode to Color. Then adjust the opacity to 30% so you can easily desaturate the photo. If we want to adjust the saturation next time, we can directly change the opacity without setting any other options.
Find a green ocean picture, preferably with very beautiful ocean colors and textures. We put this image on top of all layers and set it to “Color Burn” and 20% Opacity. I’d love to tell you why I use Color Burn mode, but in reality I just try every blending mode and find the one that works best!
Below is a picture of the finished product.
Using this method, you must know how well your photo needs to be adjusted. This article is just a tutorial. In actual application, you may often have to copy an original photo on the top layer and then set different transparency to make it suitable for different designs
