The material picture does not have backlighting. During processing, it is necessary to brighten the background of the character and render some light yellow highlights. Then render some transmitted highlights around the characters to create a backlight-like effect.

1. Open the material picture, create an optional color adjustment layer, and adjust the yellow, green, and black. The parameter settings are as shown in Figure 1-3, and the effect is as shown in Figure 4. This step adds some orange to the background.
4. Press Ctrl+J to copy the current layer and change the opacity to: 70%. The effect is as shown below.
5. Call up the current layer selection, create a brightness/contrast adjustment layer, and appropriately increase the contrast of the image. The parameters and effects are as shown below.
8. Duplicate the background layer, press Ctrl + Shift + ] to put it on top, hold down the Alt key to add a layer mask, and use a white brush to erase the character part. The effect is as shown below.

After confirmation, press Ctrl + Alt + G to create a clipping mask. The effect is as shown in Figure 24. This step makes the character’s skin color slightly rosy.
10. Create a color balance adjustment layer and adjust the shadows, midtones, and highlights. The parameter settings are as shown in Figure 25-27. After confirmation, press Ctrl + Alt + G to create a clipping mask. The effect is as shown in Figure 28. This step slightly brightens the character and enhances the texture of the skin tone.
11. Create a new layer, change the blending mode to “Screen”, set the foreground color to light red: #E2C6AE, and use a brush to paint the selected part of the picture below with the foreground color. This step adds highlights to the edges of the character.
13. Create a new layer, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E to stamp the layer, execute: Filter > Blur > Motion Blur, set the angle to 45 degrees, and set the distance to 180. After confirming, change the layer blending mode Change to “Soft Light”, hold down the Alt key to add a layer mask, and use a white brush to erase the middle part. The effect is as shown below.
Finally, fine-tune the colors and details to complete the final effect.
