PS puzzle effect – effect tutorial

PS puzzle effect 1. The first step is to select your target picture. It is best not to use too many colors in the picture, and pictures with greater color contrast between the surrounding and the center will have better effects. Here, I chose a landscape image and took a portion of it. (Picture 01)

2. Duplicate the background layer, and rename the copy of the background layer to “1”; duplicate it again, and rename the duplicate layer to 2; in this way, duplicate the background layer 4 times, and name the four duplicate layers 1, 2, and 3 respectively. ,4. In each of these four copy layers, we create the panels that make up the image.

 3. We start from the top layer “1” in the layer panel and hide all layers except layer “1”. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select a rectangle, which is the basic shape of the puzzle. Use the Select>Change Selection command (note: it must be the Change Selection command. If you use Ctrl T directly, the image in the selection will be transformed), reverse the selection, make a free transformation, and then invert the selection, delete the selected image, and cancel the selection. (Picture 02)

4. Follow the method just now, display each layer in turn, use the marquee tool to select rectangular marquees of different sizes, transform them freely, invert the selection and delete them. Do not make the selections the same size, otherwise the effect will be rigid. For the sake of beauty, the size of the selections should not be too different. (Picture 03)

Figure 03 5 . Next we will add a three-dimensional effect to the puzzle. Turn on the background layer so you can more easily see the changes in the image. Select layer “1”, double-click the layer, enter the layer style panel, first select bevel and embossing, you can follow the default style (most of the time, the default style can get the desired effect), if you have special needs for the panel Required, you can change the value. Then select the projection style, reduce the opacity of the projection to 50%, keep the projection angle consistent with the shadow angle of the bevel relief, and keep the rest as default. (Picture 04)

6. Open the style panel, make sure it is in layer “1”, click the Create New Style button, in the New Style dialog box, name the style, make sure it includes layer effects, and click OK to create a new style. Then select layers 2, 3, and 4 in turn, click the newly created style on the style panel, and apply it to each layer. (Picture 05)

Figure 05
Creating a new style is the most convenient way to apply the same style to multiple layers. In addition, you can also copy the style to other layers by dragging the layer style, as shown in Figure 06. We want layer 2 to apply the style of layer 1. You can first select layer 2 and then open it. Layer 1’s style, so that it is fully displayed, click the style you want to copy with the mouse, do not release the mouse, drag it to layer 2, release the mouse, layer 2 will apply the style you dragged. During the dragging process, the mouse always displays the shape of the gripper tool. If you want to apply only a certain layer style, this method is faster and avoids the trouble of deleting redundant styles after applying a fixed layer style. (Picture 06)

Figure 067 . Finally, adjust the layer position, place layer 2 on top of layer 1, combine layers 1-4, and fill the background layer with white. (Picture 07)

Figure 07
After mastering this method, you can create different numbers of panel images, but you must pay attention to the order of layers to achieve a reasonable stacking order. You can also slightly change details like shadow opacity. (Picture 08)
