OK, let’s get to the point. Photoshop, as a professional image processing software, can easily achieve various effects. Today I will bring you memories of your childhood and teach you how to make cards that can be used to “carve wooden boards and read pictures and read words”. Let’s take a look at the effect first:
Click to see the larger image1. First, open Photoshop, our familiar good helper, create a slightly larger canvas, and create a new layer. Use the Gradient Tool to draw a gray/black/gray gradient from top to bottom on a new layer. As shown in Figure 1. 
2. Execute Filter/Noise/Add Noise, set the number of noise to 30, Gaussian distribution, and single color. Click OK. as shown in picture 2. 
3. After adding noise, continue to perform Filter/Blur/Motion Blur, set the angle to 0 degrees and the distance to 50 pixels, so that the added noise forms the effect of horizontal lines. As shown in Figure 3. 
4. Run the filter again, this time using the Liquify filter. Select the Rotate tool to turn the straight lines in the image into a curved effect. Be careful to keep it natural and do not bend all parts. In a word, it is to imitate the effect of wood grain in reality. As shown in Figure 4.

5. After liquefaction, the wood grain texture is basically completed. The next step is to color it. Press Ctrl U to open the Hue/Saturation dialog box, check the coloring check box, and adjust the hue, saturation, and lightness to 45, 39, and 15 respectively. This value is used by ωǒ. Please check it during the production process. You can learn from it but don’t copy it mechanically. As shown in Figure 5.
6． We don’t need so many wooden boards for the entire canvas. We are going to make a wooden card, so we need to draw the shape of the card. Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool, set the corner radius to 3 mm, and draw it in a suitable position. As shown in Figure 6. 
7. Press Ctrl Enter to convert the path into a selection, then press Shift Ctrl I to reverse the selection, and finally press the Delete key to delete the excess part of the reverse selection to get the shape of the card. As shown in Figure 7. 
8． Add a layer style to the layer where the wood pieces are located. Double-click the layer to open the layer style dialog box. First add the “Shadow” style, adjust the distance and extension to 0, set the size to 10 pixels, and keep other default values. . As shown in Figure 8. 
9. Next add the Bevel and Emboss style to the wood pieces. Set the Size and Softening to 0 pixels, select the Style to Inside Side, and keep the rest as default. As shown in Figure 9. 
10． The last item is to add a “stroke” style to the wood pieces. Set the stroke size to 1 pixel, select black as the color, and leave everything else unchanged. As shown in Figure 10. 
11. OK, once opened, a wooden card is ready. Next, let us carve a beautiful pattern for it. Duplicate a plank layer and select the upper one to work on. Use the pattern path tool to draw a pattern path. The pattern here can be anything you want. Photoshop does not come with many patterns. You can find more pattern resources online. Here I have chosen a kitten to draw. As shown in Figure 11.
12. Press Ctrl Enter to convert the path into a selection, and then press the Delete key to delete the cat in the selection. As shown in Figure 12. 
13. Select the “Horizontal Text Mask Tool” in the toolbar, and the text typed using it is directly a selection, which is very convenient. As shown in Figure 13. 
14． Here, enter the word “little kitten” and press the Delete key to delete the content in the selection. As shown in Figure 14. 
15． Of course, don’t forget to add pinyin below the Chinese characters. Finally, for the sake of beauty, I used the pen tool to draw the path of the picture frame around the kitten to create a picture frame that does not look monotonous. As shown in Figure 15.
