Introduction: Google Glass is finally in the hands of users, and Brandon Allgood, CTO of Numerate, is fortunate to be one of the first users. He shared with everyone his thoughts after using Google Glass on the first day. It said that the battery life can really last a whole day, Google Now is very convenient to use, but there are some problems with taking pictures. He also said that colleagues in Silicon Valley are not opposed to Google Glass.
The following is the full text of the article:
I wore Google Glass all day today and it was light and didn’t bother me at all.
Google Glass battery
The battery life really lasts all day.
But I didn’t use the video service for a long time.
I’m not very popular on Google+ and most of my emails go to my business account, so I don’t mind the “ding” when I receive emails or comment on messages on Google+.
Everyone’s reaction to Google Glass
Most of my colleagues were excited to see Google Glass.
But some people are uncomfortable with it.
The overall response has been positive, and people don’t mind me wearing glasses in meetings or other situations.
However, I live in Silicon Valley, and people elsewhere may not have the same level of acceptance as my colleagues.
New habits brought by Google Glass
I found that some of my habits needed to change.
For example, I just tilt my head back (which turns on the display) and I can see the time.
This means I don’t have to find a clock or pull out my phone to tell the time.
Now I no longer need to check emails on my phone or computer.
Take photos and videos
Videos and photos taken in low light don’t turn out very well.
But in a sunny location, the effect is fantastic.
The Google Now function is very powerful
It has learned to give me traffic directions when I get off work, no matter where I am going.
The voice function for email and text messages is also very good, and the response speed is very fast.
I assume it uses the standard Google “Speech-to-text” service.
Microphones and headphones
The microphone also works well when making phone calls.
Bone conduction headphones are also great.
Even in places with loud background sounds, the sound of Google Glass can be clearly heard.
Don’t listen to stuff during meetings, though!
How to use WIFI with Google Glass
There’s an interesting feature that I haven’t seen people discussing before. That’s how to join a Wifi network.
If you want to connect to Wifi, you need to use Myglass (the Google Glass app that can be installed on Android phones) to get a password.
After you enter the Wifi SSID and password, Myglass will display a QR code, and then you can scan it through Google Glass and access the Internet.
Google Glass does not have a keyboard interface, so I came up with this method.
Need to change
1. Speech-to-text performance is very poor, especially when using WEP.
2. Before taking a photo, you cannot compose it.
When I say “OK glass, take a picture”, Google Glass will take a picture directly without any delay.
A camera obviously takes in different light than a person’s glasses, so my general approach is to take multiple photos and choose the one I like.
Maybe with practice this won’t be a big deal, but I still tend to have some composition time.
Video has the same problem.
3. Questions about bold content reading aloud
When someone sends you an email with bold text, Glass will display it with asterisks around the text.
But when using “Read Aloud” it will just say “asterisk”, but it should actually be better to say nothing or read the bolded content out loud.
It’s best to ignore it, but it’s more fun to read it out loud.
Anyway, the current pronunciation is rather awkward.
Finally, I want to tell you that Google Glass is not very noticeable. I wore it and talked to someone for more than ten minutes today before he noticed that I was wearing Google Glass. (Compiler/Wei Bing Editor/Zhang Yong)
